The Technical Advisory Group on Alcohol and Drug Epidemiology (TAG-ADE) was established for technical advice to the WHO Secretariat on issues related to epidemiology of alcohol and drug use, and their health consequences. Among the objectives of the TAG-ADE is further improvement of the quality of WHO estimates of alcohol and drug use in populations, as well as that of estimates of alcohol- and drug-attributable disease burden. Additionally, the TAG-ADE terms of reference include technical advice on indicators, data collection procedures and estimates for prevention and treatment coverage for substance use disorders, as well as recommendations on the international research agenda for substance use and related health conditions.
The WHO Secretariat has decided to convene a virtual meeting of the TAG-ADE 14 and 15 January 2020 with the following objectives:
- Discuss proposed new alcohol-attributable health conditions with regard to their potential inclusion in production of WHO updated estimates of the disease burden attributable to alcohol use;
- Receive technical advice on the proposed targets and indicators included in the working document for development of an action plan to strengthen implementation of the Global strategy to reduce the harmful use of alcohol;
- Discuss proposed methodology for a global assessment of treatment coverage and capacity of prevention and treatment systems for alcohol and drug use disorders;
- Receive technical advice on research priorities and appropriate methodological approaches for a global assessment of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on epidemiology of alcohol and drug use, their health consequences, and implications for health system and policy responses.
The meeting is by invitation only.
