SAGE Metro Detroit Offers $50 Gift Card for Participation in Survey, Focus Group on LGBTQ Housing, Service Needs

LGBTQ-focused organizations in Southeast Michigan want to hear housing and service needs for same-gender-loving and LGBTQ older adults in Southeast Michigan, and SAGE Metro Detroit is seeking 50 individuals to give feedback on an 80-question, 40-minute survey in exchange for a $50 gift card. Those living in Wayne, Washtenaw, Macomb and Oakland Counties who are at least 45 years old are eligible to participate, and all participants will be asked to join in a 90-minute focus group afterward to refine the survey results. “We will collect some contact information in order to send you the gift card and also identify times you are available to schedule you for a focus group. We will keep this information totally separate from your answers to questions on the survey and will not be able to connect who you are with how you answer the survey,” wrote SAGE staff via email. “Thus, your responses in the survey will remain confidential. In the focus group, you will be focusing on the formats and questions in the survey and not your answers to those questions.”

Surveys do not need to be completed in one sitting, however, to return to it later, the same device must be used when starting it. The information gathered through the survey and the focus groups are intended to provide a better understanding to SAGE Metro Detroit of housing, health and safety issues that SGL/LGBTQ older adults perceive and what they think should be done about them. This information will be used to advocate for increased housing and services and to develop more resources for our community.
