Four faculty members at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln were named fellows to the American Association for the Advancement of Science this week.
Since 1874, fellows are chosen for the world’s largest general scientific society based upon their achievements in scientific research or applications.
UNL’s faculty are part of a new class of 489 members elected this year.
* Craig Allen, a professor of natural resources, for his research into resilience theory and its application in conservation and resource management, as well as teaching and service.
* Roch Gaussoin, a professor of agronomy and horticulture, for his work in turf grass and landscape systems, academic administration and science communication.
* Kristen Olson, a professor of sociology, for her contributions to survey research methodology, including understanding and reducing survey nonresponse errors, as well as for her service mentoring students.
* James Takacs, professor of chemistry, for his contributions to synthetic organic chemistry, mentoring and excellence in postsecondary chemistry education.
The new class of fellows will be formally announced in the Nov. 27 issue of Science, and be inducted in a virtual ceremony scheduled for Feb. 13.
