Marine geophysical services company Shearwater GeoServices has secured a large Ocean Bottom Node four-dimensional (4D) baseline survey from Brazilian firm Petrobras.
The OBN survey will be carried out at the Jubarte field in the North Campos Basin, Espirito Santo province, offshore Brazil.
To be conducted for an area of 810km², the survey will start in the first half of next month and last for a period of three months.
Shearwater GeoServices CEO Irene Waage Basili said: “We welcome this contract awarded by Petrobras and look forward to supporting their continued ambitions in the Jubarte Field.
“This deepwater OBN award reflects our experience in operating offshore Brazil, our position in the deepwater OBN segment, and our strategy of marine seismic leadership and unique in-house developed technology and solutions.”
Shearwater noted that the survey will use the ‘SW Diamond’ vessel operating ‘Shearwater’s 3×3 source’. The vessel is equipped with three sub-arrays on each of the three sources.
In a press statement, Shearwater stated: “While conventional sources vary their energy in one direction versus another, this project’s omnidirectional source is designed to give out energy uniformly in all directions which will be key to 4D repeatability for this rich azimuth deepwater OBN acquisition.”
Last month, Shearwater GeoServices secured a deal for large 3D seismic acquisition and depth processing in the Europe, Africa and Middle East (EAME) region.
In May, Shearwater GeoServices secured a contract from hydrocarbon exploration firm Apache to provide a 4D seismic survey with a 3D extension over the Forties Field in the UK North Sea.
