The Cyber Police of Mexico City detected an apocryphal website used to carry out fraud and theft of information by processing official documentation
The Cyber Police, of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) from Mexico City, headed by Omar García Harfuch, detected an apocryphal website used to carry out fraud and information theft by processing official documentation.
“The false website https://actagobmx.com/#/intro, offers to issue and make corrections of birth, marriage, divorce and death certificates, in exchange for a deposit of 389 pesos in convenience stores,” said the agency through a statement.
The Cyber Police observed that to process any of the referred documents, it is necessary to fill out a form with name and surname, day of birth, month and year; sex, state and municipality.
To continue with the process, it asks for the applicant’s first and last name again, and once the data has been entered, it gives the option of previewing the document.
Upon completion, it offers two payment options: one through convenience stores and the second through another payment system. However, it does not allow you to click on the second option, since when requesting it the legend appears: ‘We are Updating These Forms of Payment’, which forces the user to click on the first option.
The cyber criminals prefer deposits to be made through stores, type Oxxo or 7-Eleven, for the ease with which prepaid cards are obtained.
In the same way, they obtain personal data from their victims, in order to misuse them to commit fraud, since payment is made in exchange for a document that is not obtained.
Therefore, the SSC encourages citizens not to be fooled by these sites and to avoid being a victim of cybercriminals recommends:
Do not fill out forms with personal data Before paying for a service, verify the authenticity of the website Refuse to make deposits in convenience stores to unsecured or anonymous accounts If you pay online, make sure that your account charges are under control Yes There is doubt or does not recognize any payment, immediately inform your bank Avoid making financial operations through public websites Do not share information that is not verified
