It’s been a year since the previous instalment, R.B.I. Baseball 19,
brought authenticity of the sport to the masses. Granted, it wasn’t so well
received in other areas of the experience, but now is the time for the latest offering
to put things right. R.B.I. Baseball 20 is here on Xbox One, PlayStation 4,
Nintendo Switch and PC, ready to step up to the plate and bat away any potential
criticism. But what can we expect it to deliver?
First and foremost, R.B.I. Baseball 20 boasts brand new
controls for batting, pitching and running controls. These include the choice
to power up for a massive swing or merely play a safety shot, decide upon pitch
types fuelled by real pitcher information, and a streamlined approach to base
running. Furthermore, there’s a fresh approach to the camera perspective during
pitching that’s inspired by a broadcast style. Whilst on the topic of visuals,
a whole host of player model improvements have been implemented such as revamped
hair as well as more minor details like eye black, pine tar on helmets, and stains
after performing dives and slides.
Amongst the game modes available to delve into are the likes
of Exhibition, Franchise, Online Multiplayer and Home Run Derby. Within these
modes you’ll notice even more authenticity than ever before; prepare for enhanced
stealing and pickoffs, superior MLB ballparks, tailored cutscene animations and
camera angles, better crowd behaviours, and improved ball collision. Considering
it also promises weekly updates to the rosters all season long, in addition to
a whopping 165+ MLB Legends being included, there’s plenty to look forward to.
