Australian charities are being encouraged to take part
The impact of social media, emerging trends such as cryptocurrency, and the role of crowdfunding on individual giving levels will be revealed in the most diverse Global NGO Technology survey so far.
Launched on 6 March, the world’s only crowd-sourced research project will this year bring together 44 partners from across the globe, doubling the number from 2019.
The initiative – sponsored by Funraise and researched by Nonprofit Tech for Good – is a research project focused on how charities around the world use technology to connect with their supporters and donors, and is available in Arabic, English, French, Italian, Mandarin, Portuguese, and Spanish.

The 2019 report provided technology benchmarks for Africa, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the United States and Canada. A global average of the benchmark data – as well as Global NGO Technology Ratings – was also provided.
Pro Bono Australia is one of this year’s Australian partners, along with The Funding Network Australia, and Workplace Giving Australia.
Heather Mansfield, Nonprofit Tech for Good editor-in-chief, urged Australians to get involved.
“The survey is anonymous and your participation will help provide charitable giving benchmarks for nonprofits, NGOs, and charities,” Mansfield said.
“This year’s survey will reveal the impact of social media, emerging trends (such as cryptocurrency, Amazon Alexa, gaming for good), and the role of crowdfunding, peer-to-peer fundraising, #GivingTuesday, and volunteerism in individual giving worldwide.”
The survey closes at the end of May and the final results will be published in the 2020 Global Trends in Giving Report, released on 14 September 2020.
