Central Maine Power has confirmed receipt of the Town’s payment for the streetlight acquisition. Rockport now owns the streetlights. In a related topic, because of the failure of CMP to repair some of the streetlights (mainly the radial wave decorative lights), the Town will be receiving a refund of over $4,000. The refund will be a credit on our streetlight account monthly invoice so we will realize the savings in this fiscal year.
Glen Cove Rest Area
Mike Young has been working with MDOT to have the vegetation on the bank between the Glen Cove Rest Area and Route 1 trimmed within the State’s right-of-way. Last week, MDOT performed the work and the result is a much-improved view and appearance of the rest area. The Department of Public Works will now trim the vegetation within the rest area.
Parking Work group Update
The parking pork group that I created and participate in continues its work. At the last meeting, it was determined that the work group will meet twice per month as we ramp up our deliverables. Also at that meeting, the group discussed short, medium and long-term goals and action steps. Some of these short-term goals include assembling traffic count data, installing striping and signage for current public parking spaces, identify areas for temporary parking, arranging a safety audit with MDOT, installing bicycle racks and a drafting a public outreach/publicity plan. As the group refines these goals, a presentation to the Select Board will be accomplished.
Petitions
As you are may be aware, there are two petitions circulating that aim to make changes to the Land Use Ordinance to include limiting the number of rooms in hotels and regulations pertaining to off-street/remote parking in the downtown district. The language of the petitions is appropriate and legal to place on a warrant for a vote. The circulators must have 213 signatures of registered Rockport voters for the petitions to be valid. Should the petitions meet the requirements, the Board should place them on the warrant for the next election.
