PHOENIX— The city of Mesa has unveiled a new brand to highlight the Asian culture, community and commerce in the area.

The brand, Asian District, Mesa, AZ, consists of more than 70 Asian restaurants, grocery stores and other businesses on or near Dobson Road between Main Street and Broadway Road.

The first businesses in the area opened about a decade ago, and since then, it has grown exponentially.

“Mesa has a strong and very active Asian community and I am excited to see the Asian District come to life in west Mesa,” Mayor John Giles said in a press release. “This is the perfect place for people to gather, eat, shop and immerse themselves in the flavors and cultures of Asia.”

The reveal of Asian District’s brand comes after the city set up an online survey last year to get input form people who live, work and shop in the area.

After conducting research and consulting with stakeholders, the Asian District brand was formed.

The brand’s logo is a tangram, a seven piece Chinese puzzle, which is intended to symbolize the different Asian cultures coming together in the community.

“It is absolutely amazing to see the unity behind this endeavor,” Vic Reid, CEO of the Asian Chamber of Commerce said. “The Asian District is a place for our community to truly take pride in – we know the work being done today will have an everlasting impact on future generations.”

Mesa is working to develop additional signage and artwork for the area later this year.

For now, the city is focusing on promoting the brand at new events, including the Lunar New Year celebration on Jan. 25 and the Asian District night market on Feb. 29.
