Swachh Survekshan 2020 first quarter survey results out, Bhopal bags second position

In first quarter Swachh Survekshan 2020, Bhopal has got second ranking. Under Swachh Survekshan 2020, the first quarter survey were conducted in different phases. In first phase Bhopal got second ranking and in second phase Bhopal managed to get fifth ranking. The overall score ranking of first quarter came to second. In first quarter, Bhopal city got 1523.31 points out of 2000. In second quarter, however, 1499.23 points were received. The annual Swachh Survekshan (sanitation survey) and field verification is has started in State capital for 2020. The survey will be completed by January 31, ahead of the Central Government’s pan-India Swachh rankings for cities across the nation.

Launched as a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Swachh Survekshan is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation at all cities and towns across the nation. As Swachh Survekshan-2020 is on going the Bhopal Municipal Corporation officials have decided to intensify their efforts to improve the ranking of the city mainly focusing on educating the citizens on wet and dry waste segregation. Next Quality Council of India (QCI) team is expected to come by January 3 to State capital. In 2019, Bhopal was ranked 19 in the Swachh Survekshan rankings. Swachh Survkeshan’ 2020 focus on grey water and black water management. The main emphasis is given on GPS monitoring of garbage picking vehicles.

BMC has deployed 600 employees and 400 vehicles for the cleanliness of sewage and garbage collection. The Swachh Survkeshan’ 2020 team will start inspecting different area this week. The Swachh Survekshan League 2020 with the objective of sustaining the on-ground performance of cities along with continuous monitoring of service level performance on cleanliness has also identified parameters. Swachh Survekshan 2020 key focus areas includes collect segregate waste and maintain till processing site, utilise capacity of wet processing facilities, treat and re-use waste water, curtain solid waste based air pollution, follow three principles including reduce, reuse and recycle, uplift social condition of informal Waste pickers, promote procurement through GeM, engage technology-driven monitoring.

Bhopal Municipal Corporation wastewater management in Upper Lake was already inspected by QCI team and now further focus is given on setting up strategy to implement it near water bodies. Waste water is classified into two categories, blackwater and greywater. They must be kept in separate tanks because although they are both used water, they have different levels of contamination and must be treated differently. They can be recycled and used for watering plants and cleaning. They can be recycled through filtration, composting, distillation, or several other mechanical or biological treatment systems.
