CASPER, Wyo. β The Bureau of Land Management Wyoming said on Monday that their field offices in Pinedale and Rawlins are seeking volunteers to help conduct bald eagle surveys.
The bald eagle surveys will be conducted on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021 as part of a national mid-winter effort to estimate populations of the species.
BLM Wyoming says that such bald eagle counts have been conducted since 1979. A number of federal and state agencies along with support from volunteers conduct the counts each January.

βBy monitoring and estimating national and regional count trends, an index of the total winter bald eagle population in the lower 48 states has been established,β BLM Wyoming says.
Volunteers will be assigned to two-person observation teams. Those teams will be assigned to survey routes along public roads in Sublette County, Sweetwater County or Carbon County.
Two person teams are needed so that one person can safely operate a vehicle while the other observes and documents the bald eagles.
Volunteers who are interested should contact either the Pinedale or Rawlins BLM Field Office by Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021. The field offices will provide volunteers with assignments and instructions on how to conduct the surveys.
