SB Nation Reacts: Clemson & Alabama are still pretty good, huh?

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NCAA. Each week, we send out questions to the most plugged in Wisconsin Badgers fans, and fans across the country. Sign up here to join Reacts. NOTE: This poll was conducted prior to this Saturday’s games.

There is little about 2020 that feels familiar in any way. Except, that is, at the top of the college football world.

When asked in the most recent SB Nation Reacts survey to pick between the Clemson Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide or the rest of the field for who would win the National Championship, nearly two-thirds of fans across the country are siding with the two most consistently dominant teams over the last five years.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, I guess.

Similarly, the Tigers and Crimson Tide populate many of the top spots in the Heisman race. Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence ran away with the top spot, earning 43 percent of the vote. His teammate RB Travis Etienne tallied the next most votes with 17 percent, the only two players in double digits.

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, Alabama running back Najee Harris and Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard round out the top five.

Despite the runaway vote, Lawrence’s dominance over the field has actually diminished. When asked the same question before the start of the season, the Tigers QB was at 70 percent.

The Wisconsin Badgers will, finally, begin their own title chase next weekend as the Big Ten kicks off their season on Friday night against Illinois. While they may not get the national attention of Clemson and Alabama, Badgers fans have near complete confidence in the program.

96 percent of Wisconsin fans said they think the team is headed in the right direction, the same percentage as the previous two weeks. Presumably once Graham Mertz takes the field this will go up to 100 and there will be a new leader in the Heisman poll.
