Identity verification services provider Acuant has announced that its Ozone document verification solution is now available on mobile applications.

Acuant's Document Verification Solution Goes Mobile

The proprietary Ozone technology is a regulatory-compliance tool for the authentication of chip-based identity documents like ePassports and electronic IDs. Its expansion to include mobile devices will allow for the on-premise authentication of chip documents as well as remote verification, re-verification, and onboarding for a variety of industries.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise in remote work that it has resulted in, the number of people relying on conducting their affairs online has dramatically increased. This has led to a rise in remote and contactless authentication needs in industries ranging from banking and e-commerce to healthcare, travel and border control.

“We are living in a time when digital identity verification is more critical to keeping our economy running than ever before,” said Yossi Zekri, President and CEO of Acuant. “Businesses and government agencies globally need a high level of confidence in the authenticity of the identity of a traveler, customer or prospective employee now that in-person transactions are restricted,” he added.

By placing a compatible device running Ozone on a chip-based document, it can unlock the document’s chip and, using cryptographic security, instantly and securely send the data contained within it to the cloud for authentication.

Ozone is also able to offer revocation checks on a document that can tell instantly if the credentials contained within it have been revoked by the issuer. At the same time, Acuant’s AssureID document authentication can check to verify that the physical document is still valid to be used for transactions.

“We have expanded the use of our Ozone technology to provide that confidence for all identity documents, including digital versions, in a fast, accurate and highly secure way,” said Zekri.

Additionally, a facial recognition match can compare a selfie taken by the document owner and verify it against the image housed in the document’s chip, with a liveness test also performed to provide multi-factor authentication and to combat any potential fraud.

The entire process can be done in less than a minute and the data involved is fully encrypted to ensure maximum privacy. And Ozone’s built-in age verification and document expiration checks can generate a Digital Travel Credential (DTC) when complete.
