GURUGRAM: The proposed metro link between Gurugram and Faridabad is all set to gather steam. The first field survey of the 32km-long route from Vatika Chowk in Gurugram to Bata Chowk in Faridabad was carried out on Wednesday by a joint team of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) and HSVP officials. The detail project report (DPR) of the metro route has already been prepared.

Officials said the field survey to check the alignment of the route and identify spots for developing stations was the second key step after the DPR before the execution of the project on the ground, following an approval from the government. The entire route will have just eight stations, including one interchange station in Faridabad. And around 28km will be elevated.
“The field survey started from Vatika Chowk at 9.30am and ended at 2.30pm in Faridabad. During the survey, we checked project route alignment and identified spots for developing stations. We also checked the status of the land required for the project. The corridor, which will be developed along the Gurugram-Faridabad road, does not require any major acquisition of land,” said HSVP (Gurgaon) administrator Jitender Yadav.
As per the DPR, five of the eight stations will be in Faridabad — Bata Chowk (the interchange station), Aravali Golf Course, Badkhal Enclave, Pali Stone Crusher Zone and Police Chowki Manger. Gurugram will have stations at Mandi village, Sector 56 and Vatika Chowk. Aravali Golf Course and Badkhal Enclave will be the only two underground stations. After the survey, officials have recommended one more station in Gurugram.
“During the field survey, we found there is a huge gap between two stations — Mandi Village and Sector 56. Many residential societies have come up in between these stations. So, we have recommended one more station near Ghata,” said estate officer-2 of HSVP (Gurugram) Vivek Kalia.
DMRC, according to sources, has also sought around 10 acres of land for developing a depot between Golf Course Road and Faridabad road. “We are checking the ownership of the land,” said Yadav.
The survey came days after Haryana’s chief secretary reviewed the project and asked the HSVP administrators of Gurugram and Faridabad to submit an inspection report of the proposed corridor. The project was announced by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar in 2016, after much delay DMRC completed the DPR in March and handed it over to HMRTC in June 10. The DPR has been placed before the public undertaking committee of the state assembly.
The metro corridor is expected to reduce vehicular traffic in the two cities as a large number of people travel to Faridabad from Gurugram daily in personal vehicles for work in the absence of a public transport system. The DMRC already has metro services up to Huda City Centre in Gurugram and Raja Nahar Singh (Ballabhgarh) in Faridabad.
