Possible tornado strike in Stillwater, Schaghticoke investigated by National Weather Service
STILLWATER — A meteorologist from the National Weather Service is examining storm damage to determine if a tornado did indeed hit eastern Saratoga and western Rensselaer counties Saturday.
The scientist is surveying the patterns of damage to decide if a twister was to blame. The weather service hopes to have the work completed later Sunday.
Late Saturday afternoon, a funnel cloud was seen on the ground to the north of Stillwater.
Powerful winds were being blamed for damage found in the area around Stillwater and Schaghticoke in northwestern Rensselaer County.
Trees were uprooted, utility lines were ripped down and, in Stillwater, a trailer was badly damaged.
So far, there are no reports of injuries.
Utility crews were working in the field to repair localized power outages.
