The original security protocol is SSL, it is responsible for making the websites safe and that the transferred data is encrypted so that third parties cannot access them. In 1999 another version of SSL appeared, in this case called TLS which stands for Transport Layer Security considerably improving the security of the different websites that make use of it.

As the years go by, we see it as normal to enter sensitive data on the internet. The reason? Purchases of different products or banking tasks on the internet are something that is becoming more common around the world.

Either you have to enter your bank account or you must enter your credit card to buy a product. ¿Ever wonder if that data is safe? And in this case it does not matter if you have a computer with antivirus, antispyware, etc. Since we depend on the site in question.

Internet security basics

The online security of websites works like a ping pong of questions and answers. When we enter an encrypted site, the browser asks it to verify its authenticity. The site must respond with the correct information and when the two of you agree, we can enter it.

All this happens in a matter of seconds, when we are waiting for the website to load. In short, they exchange information to verify that the website’s encryption type is appropriate. In case something goes wrong a message will appear on the screen that the site we are trying to visit is unsafe.

How do we know that a site is safe?

It is too easy to tell when a site is secure because a lock appears to the left of the site’s address. In case nothing appears, the browsers warn us in the same place that the site is not secure.

You must bear in mind that the website encryption is essential for all those sites where information is required to be entered: bank accounts, credit cards, access data, etc.

In the event that we visit a website where we should not enter any kind of private data. So it doesn’t need to be safe either.

Which is the best? TLS or SSL?

We must bear in mind that the SSL encryption level is quite old, it was introduced in 1995 and has become totally obsolete. but TLS is constantly improving and its evolution is quite fast, along with technological progress. Adding security fixes for different classes of vulnerabilities.

Thus, TLS has stronger encryption, helps us hide the data that we enter between the computer and the websites. In addition, the communication between the site and the computer is much more fluid.

TLS was introduced to improve the security of our data. Technology advances rapidly, which leads us to the need for new algorithms that are more upgradeable and above all more secure.

In the future, we will find a much improved version of TLS that will no longer be compatible with old security technologies which are no longer strong enough to guarantee the encryption of private data.
