A netizen has accused the Hong Kong Public Opinion Research Institute led by veteran pollster, Robert Chung Ting-yiu, of lying about destroying respondents’ data six months after surveys are completed, online news site Bastille Post reported.

Previously, netizen “Tony Mike” revealed that the institute has kept data collected by the Hong Kong University Public Opinion Programme (HKUPOP) in a survey conducted for the police in 2013 and that data are suspected of being leaked.

The HKUPOP, established by Chung in 1991, was dissolved and broke away from the university last year, and turned into a private and independent organization.

In a forum on Telegram app today, “Tony Mike” said the institute had previously replied that all data had been destroyed six months after the survey was completed and there were no signs of the system being hacked.

But “Tony Mike” revealed that after entering the institute’s “Jurassic” system, data collected in June 2017 can still be found and questioned whether data had been destroyed. The netizen also posted a photo showing personal data collected in a survey in the past.
