EAST HARTFORD — The town is asking residents to fill out a survey and voice their expectations for summer camp activities in the coming months, as part of a planning process to provide some form of programming amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Officials said that regulations and challenges brought on by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and suggestions from the Office of Early Childhood, include:
Camps allow a maximum of 50 children dispersed into groups of no more than 10 children and one counselor that would not intermingle in any activities. Drop-off and pick-up periods and times would need to be assigned and organized so health screenings could be administered daily.
The health screens would require parents and children to fill out a questionnaire and have their temperatures taken. Staff would also need to be screened and wear a mask at work at all times. It’s recommended that children wear masks any time they cannot keep safe social distancing, the guidelines suggest.
There would be no field trips or swimming in the pool during camp hours.
The deadline to fill out the survey is Monday and the form can be found at
In other news, the East Hartford Public Library will begin a curbside service to circulate its items starting Monday. A limit of 10 items per person is allowed for pickup. Items can be requested Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., by calling 860-290-4346. Pickups would be scheduled weekdays between 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Borrowers are asked to park and wait inside their vehicle at a marked spot in the library’s parking lot, call to notify staff of their arrival, and pop open their trunk. Staff would then place the bagged items in the patron’s trunk. A no-contact service will be made available to borrowers who walk or bike to the library, or those who do not have a cell phone, officials said.
In addition, due dates for library items have been extended through July 31 and no fines would be accrued prior to that date.
