The OnePlus 8 series is the next major flagship to be announced globally. The company hasn’t announced officially but there are leaks and insights that have given us significant information about the devices. Recently, one of the most comprehensive leaks has been surfaced.

Same as last year, the OnePlus 8 series will have 8 and the 8 Pro, with slight differences between the two. A bold move to 5G and the high refresh rate displays are the confirmed aspects of the line.

OnePlus 8 Pro

The OnePlus 8 Pro comes with a new 6.78-inch Super AMOLED display with a QHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Most likely, it’ll be a curved display with a hole-punch for the front camera.

OnePlus 8 Pro is powered by Snapdragon 865 chipset, UFS 3.0 storage, LPDDR5 RAM and a Snapdragon X55 modem to bring 5G capabilities. The battery is expected to be 4,510 mAh with 30W Warp Charge 30T fast charging.

Lastly, for the cameras, we’re looking at a new 48MP image sensor. This is likely to be the Sony IMX689 (seen on the Oppo Find X2 Pro), which uses a large 1/1.4-inch sensor at a rare 16:9 aspect ratio for a pixel size of 1.12µm before pixel binning. That will be followed by a 48MP ultra-wide shooter, an 8MP telephoto lens, and a 5MP depth sensor. The selfie camera will have a resolution of 16MP.

OnePlus 8

The more affordable device in the lineup comes with similar specs of the OnePlus 7T apart from Snapdragon 865, UFS 3.0 storage and LPDDR4X RAM. It has a flat 6.55-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution.

The OnePlus 8 is said to continue a triple camera setup, but with the aforementioned 48MP primary shooter, followed by 16MP ultra-wide shooter and a 2MP depth sensor. Seems like the telephoto lens will be exclusive to the higher-end phone only. The battery size is suggested to be at a conservative 4,300mAh, along with 30W Warp Charge and no IP certification or wireless charging.

OnePlus 8 Lite?

There were rumors about the mislabeled “OnePlus 8 Lite” a few months ago. However, newer reports say that the company is considering a whole new line for the more affordable devices. XDA’s Max Winebach suggested the revival of the OnePlus X series revival, which does not seem too far fetched. The OnePlus “X2” might be announced in the coming months.

The OnePlus 8 series will be released globally in mid-April. However, the circumstances are highly volatile and hopes could end up in the air for the consumers and the company.
