Surprise residents can share their thoughts on living in Surprise in the 2021 National Community Survey.

This scientific survey, conducted by Polco/National Research Center of Boulder, Colorado, examines residents’ responses on topics ranging from traffic flow to public safety to senior and youth services.

Later this month, paper surveys will be mailed to 2,700 randomly-selected Surprise households in the first wave of data collection. Later on, an online version will open for the entire city to participate.

The results helps city officials identify priority projects for Surprise and indicates where limited city funding should go in order to provide the services most desired.

All survey results are anonymous. The city does not know which addresses have been selected by the third-party surveyor and only receives the aggregate results.

Postcards were mailed out last week to selected addresses, advising that the survey is on the way. The survey itself, along with a postage-paid return envelope, will arrive after Feb. 10.

There will also be an online option provided to these selected households. To be sure that selected residents receive their survey, a second survey will be mailed as a follow-up later in the month.

Residents who complete and mail the first survey, or complete it online, can disregard the second mailing.

The NCS will be offered online to the community at large beginning in mid-March. Details will be provided at surpriseaz.gov when they become available.

Results are expected in May and will be shared online at surpriseaz.gov.
