Only 12 percent of providers in the U.S. said they believe COVID-19 will pose a severe threat to Americans, according to a survey from M3 Global Research.

The research group surveyed 3,268 healthcare providers and 687 patients in Italy, France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. Respondents included 1,352 providers and 347 patients from the U.S.

Three survey findings:

1. Fifty-eight percent of U.S. providers said they were confident in the government’s preparedness to handle COVID-19, compared to 60 percent of all providers.

2. Sixty-seven percent of American providers said they felt confident in their healthcare organization’s ability to handle a severe novel coronavirus outbreak. In total, 65 percent of all provider respondents said the same.

3. U.S. providers were least concerned about COVID-19 of all provider groups. Forty-two percent said it was a mild threat, 37 percent said it was a moderate threat and 12 percent said it was a severe threat. Another 8 percent said COVID-19 posed no threat.
