Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Consumer Solutions Science Leader, located in Midland, MI. The Consumer Solutions Science Leader leads Consumer Solutions’ Silicones health and environmental programs, with the objective to support the long-term growth and sustainability of the business. Is knowledgeable and has expertise in chemical related scientific and regulatory areas with a focus on silicones chemistry.  The individual will work with the existing Consumer Solutions Science Leader across all geographies and develop a strong external network to ensure that the health and environmental aspects and the sustainability benefits of silicone chemistry are practiced, maintained and understood.  Guides external scientific consultation and risk-based methodology assessments. Interacts across all levels of the value chain and with governmental bodies and academia to provide scientific and regulatory expertise and leadership. The individual should be externally recognized for their scientific expertise with specialization in chemical health and environmental regulation and with a focus on silicones chemistry.

Responsibilities

• This position is complementary and is intended to be a successor to the existing role of Consumer Solutions Science Leader.  The two positions will work closely to meet the overall organization needs.
• Monitor silicone chemistry related external scientific and regulatory developments to recognize potential implications and opportunities.   
• Advise Consumer Solutions’ of the potential impact of current and developing health and environmental knowledge around silicones chemistry and advise on the strategic development of future business plans with relation to health and environmental aspects.
• Develop and maintain strong external networks across the value chain and with governmental bodies and academia to support the business’s health and environmental programs.
• Provide scientific expert reviews and opinions on silicone related documentation, studies and/or submissions to authorities, academia, third party associations and downstream value chain members.
• Act internally as a global technical advisor for health and environmental programs and collaborate with fellow scientists building silicone chemistry health and environmental knowledge.
• Consult on and identify new methodologies and analytics that can most effectively represent silicone chemistry.
• Represent Consumer Solutions at global and regional silicone trade association committees and at global regulatory venues and scientific panels to drive effective global chemicals management.
• Support the definition and effective implementation of research and scientific programs to influence overall chemicals management policy development.
• Collaborate with teams across the organization working on health and environmental science and regulatory management.

Required Qualifications

• A minimum of a PhD in Toxicology, Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Sciences or related scientific discipline is required.
• A minimum 15 years of experience in chemical health and environmental regulation is required.
• A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Preference with experience in Silicone chemistry.
